There are so many ways for dance to enrich our lives. Recently I started teaching a lady ballroom and latin so that she can go out dancing and re-build her social life after many years as a carer. A short way into the lesson it was clear that she wasn’t a complete beginner although it had – in her words – been a ‘very long time’ ago that she had learnt. As the lesson progressed her confidence grew and her body started to remember some of the moves she had known previously. At the end of the lesson she was surprised by how much her memory had been triggered; she had discovered a form of exercise that she enjoys and will stick with and is planning to progress to some of the more difficult dances which she had not felt able to attempt. I am looking forward to our lessons together and seeing where dance will take her.
