Weekly DMP group with patients in an Intermediate Care Unit.
These clients have been discharged from hospital and their conditions are no longer acute but they are not yet well enough to return home. Typically, clients have been away from their home environment for sustained periods and may be experiencing emotional difficulties as well as physical pain. Although not fully mobile, clients participate in seated movements and often use props and percussion to express imagery and rhythms. Music choices encourage reminiscence and stimulate connections.
Clients often find that sessions enable them to access memories and emotions and many say they find the sessions help them to relax Feedback from other therapy staff is that clients are more animated following DMP sessions and communicate more with care staff and each other.
